Archiving Women Through Change

Life changes us.

We do not disappear.

Preserve what matters.

Life changes us.

We do not disappear.

Preserve what matters.

Recollections Within is a living archive of women’s stories and art, preserving who we are through life’s changes.

Centered on women’s lives and open to anyone who finds meaning in women’s stories.

You don’t need a finished story.
You don’t need to call yourself a writer or an artist.

Recollections Within exists to document and preserve the experiences that shape women in all our forms.

You are most welcome here as a reader, a witness, or a contributor to the growing collection.

The Story Behind Recollections Within

Ruthie, a young brunette woman, sitting casually on a front porch railing in a 1950s black and white photo.

Recollections Within grew from my lifelong instinct to remember people through their stories.

More than anyone else, my Mum made me who I am. Through her, I learned how much of a life exists inside what is spoken, and how much is carried internally. Her stories didn’t evaporate when she was gone. They remained, changing shape inside me and everyone else who loved her.

Inspired by the love and legacies of the women who shaped me and the women whose lives intersect with mine, Recollections Within is built on the belief that our lives, in all their change, deserve to be preserved and remembered.

Throughout my life, I’ve come to understand that memory is not only about the past. It is about continuity. About carrying forward who we are as life changes us.

I have always remembered people through their stories. Not just what happened to them, but how it changed them. How they crossed from one version of themselves into another.

This work exists for that crossing.

Here, women and anyone who feels supported in women’s spaces contribute their stories and art to a growing archive of transformation dedicated to preserving who we are even as we change.
